Well Mexico wins the contest for better food and beaches over Canada any day but seriously the place I would rather live in is Canada. At least it's a first world country. Wink

Have you tried Poutine? I think it will change your view of Canadian cuisine.

Ok those sqweemy world divisions are flat-out outdated. Communism's gone! so there's no need to segregate countries that way, even so, Mexico's no longer a 3rd world land like Most Americans like to think!

a 3rd world country meant that it had neutrality in the cold war! it was not on either side of the cause between the US and Russia. I coulda been as rich as switzerland, or iceland, or as poor as malawi

Wait. Did I miss something? When was Mexico a communist country? And communism is gone? Where did you get those impressions?

First, there are millions of undocumented (illegal) aliens in the United States--most of which come from Mexico. So yes, there are thousands of people trying to cross into America looking for a better opportunity. Some even, sadly, dying in the process.

As to my other comment about the safety there, I stand by it. A tourist staying within the confines of the resort areas generally has nothing to fear except maybe a couple of drunk college kids thinking they are Superman and jumping from hotel balconies. However, an old white guy like me may think twice about venturing off and exploring Mexico by themselves. Don't get me wrong, I hope to visit Mexico and view the ancient Mayan and Aztec architecture there someday. I just plan to be part of a large group.

If I didn't live in Texas, I would definitely live in Vancouver, B.C. I envy you, Gabu.

Vancouver? If you want North America's highest AIDs rates, and crazy coked up people and condoms and needles on the streets.

I had to spend a night in the worst part of Vancouver while waiting to catch a bus to the US, and I can tell you that it honestly was not really that bad, and it's all uphill from there as far as Vancouver goes.

Canada, because we can drink their water! Cheesy

I'd still prefer the US to either of those. Smiley

There is validity to that stereotype. People I know have known people that have had Montezuma's revenge after taking a trip to Mexico. It's not true of all places in Mexico, but it is in many - you don't experience it either because you are in one of the cleaner areas or you have built up immunity/resistance to the microbes that cause it.

I've known people who've been to Cancun and have gotten sick by getting water in their mouths in the shower. Better hold back on your laughing. Smiley

Canada.  If thousands of people are risking death in the desert in order to get to another country, there is something wrong.

I have to agree.

This thread and forum for that matter is too biased towards Canadians. I'm the only Mexican in the boards (besides PrezMex) but ive never seen him stick up to his country like I do. Hmm i wonder why there are more canadians in the forums? maybe it's the language issue! YEAH!

I just apologize for having to bash the living crap out of canada in order to defend my fatherland!

Where do you live? Are you in Mexico? My guess is Texas. Are you an American citizen? Just curious as to your reference of "my country" or "fatherland" if you will. I'm confused as to what point-of-view you are coming from.

Why exactly do you have to "bash the living crap out of Canada" in order to defend Mexico?  Can't it be defended on its own merits?

Well, I'm from Bronx, New York. I've lived in France and Israel. I kept my own language, but made it an effort to learn the language of the country in which I resided in as I hope all people should do. If you live in America, hold on to your language, but learn English.

I knew you were from Mexico. You mention it in almost every post, but I was wondering where you resided now as a point of reference.

This forum is not biased towards Canadians. You just have to take one look at Richius' posts to see what I mean. I really have nothing against Mexico. There were two mexican foreign exchange students in my French class last year at university. They are really nice people. But, when you start to bash another country, you are going to get enemies.

Yes the forum is biased toward Canadians, one of the main reasons(not being that there are more Canadians here) is that there are a lot less people illegally coming over the boarder. And the Canadain government is somewhat(if not a lot) friendlier than Mexico's government.

Weak immune system has little to do with it - I have a pretty strong one, and water from Mexico would probably make me sick too. The thing is you can't build up an immunity to diseases that aren't in your area unless you have taken vaccines for them, and in most cases they aren't available, especially for the bacterial infections that are usually the cause of these water based infections(vaccines are more for viruses than anything). It happens less in areas that have systems in place for cleaning the water, but it does happen even in those places. It's one of the reasons that quite often you'll have to get vaccinated for certain things before travelling to certain countries.
