That's not how defamation laws work. The NYTimes is liable for publishing the document, and it's not up to Trump to disprove them, but up to the NYTimes to prove that the document they have is not a fake.

Given that their source is wholly anonymous, I'm skeptical. There's nothing that indicates any credible path from Trump to the source.

It's worth noting that even the Trump campaign isn't disputing their authenticity, just questioning the methods used to obtain them.  The records are legit.

Do we have a name for the CPA, and can we confirm that the CPA actually has a connection to Trump?

Why don't you read the NYT article first, before you try to discredit every little piece of detail.
What's your next question ? Did little green people from Mars create the losses instead of trump ?

That's also not how defamation laws work. Trump is obviously a public figure, so to succeed in a defamation suit against the New York Times, the burden would be on him to prove that the NYT acted with actual malice in publishing a fraudulent document. It wouldn't even be enough for Trump to prove that the document was fraudulent. He'd have to show that either the NYT knew it was fraudulent or that the NYT acted with reckless disregard as to whether or not it was legitimate. He'd lose. Badly.

Difficult question. Almost the same as with the Pentagon Papers (just that this was about the government, not a private person).

If it is in the public interest then yes. I say The Donald's tax returns are in the public interest. However, it always difficult to make a decision what kind of information/papers are in the public interest and what not. That needs very responsible people in the newspapers.
