Michael Savage and Richus are not onto anything new.   The Soviet Union used to institutionalize anyone who dared disagree with them, claiming that anyone who dared disagree with their ideology must clearly not be right in the head.   Nazi Germany went a step further and 'euthenized' (murdered) anyone who they disagreed with, also under the premise that they were 'mentally ill'.

I suppose we are fortunate that we live in a society where the wingnuts are free to rant and be laughed at, but lack the power to act on their more violent impulses without being tossed in the pokey like any other petty thug.

Somehow the meaning of "hyperbole" got lost on you.  Find a dictionary if you can afford one and look it up.

Um, political extremism is more like Bono. Richius doesn't want to abolish government, I don't think.

Does Bono troll half as much as Richius, though?

Neither are trolls.

Option 4 - but I always remember Livia Drusilla (played by Sian Phillips in I Claudius) mentioning that she had marked her son, Drusus, and grandson, Germanicus, for death because they "were both afflicted with that infantile disorder known as Republicanism" Wink. Their deaths not being at her hands (unlike Augustus and his grandsons, Gaius, Lucius and Postumous)

Option 4. Liberalism is not a medical disorder, but rather an incorrect way of viewing general situations :-).

The notion of mental illness is thrown around too liberally these days. People seem to label anyone they disagree with strongly enough 'mentally ill'. They fail to recognize that insanity and evil are not the same thing.

That's certainly true.  But people you disagree with aren't necessarily evil either.  Today, many people don't want to acknowledge the existence of evil, and that I think is the root of saying that people who do evil things must be crazy.  We should recognize evil, and call it by its name.
