My fiancée's is from suburban Nashville and her paternal side of her family essentially became straight ticket Republicans in the mid-2000's on, but they are all either voting for Hillary or are currently undecided/leaning towards Hillary. It's a mix of thinking that Trump is deplorable and positive feelings of when Bill was in the White House.

Among college-age kids? Heh. Much, much less surprising (at least among those demographics at my school whom I interact with) to run into kids with not-particularly-conservative views choosing to support Trump or, at the very least, adamantly not-Clinton. College-age Republicans are usually kids from Macomb or Oakland counties, maybe who use chewing tobacco, who despise Clinton at a preternatural level. Those of a more populist persuasion were either supporting Sanders, Trump, or both in the primaries and are unlikely to vote for Clinton, if they vote at all. The only kids I know who support Clinton are already Democrats. Incidentally, a friend of mine--atheist, anti-tax, probably pro-choice, computers major--indicated she plans to register to vote just to oppose Clinton. I've only met one male with a notable reactionary streak (and he himself is an atheist biochem doctoral student who only voted for Romney out of a desire to "give the other guy a chance", but is evidently pretty liberal outside of his style of speaking and various cultural hangers-on) who has ceded that Hillary is better-qualified for the office.

In all honesty, I myself might've fallen into this column, but the more this campaign goes on, the more I am disgusted by the Clinton campaign. When I rooted for Hillary in the primaries, it was with the express intention of reveling in the death of "revolution" that was Bernie Sanders' defeat. Nevertheless, the "sketchy b#tch" who had no problem using racism and bitterness and hatred against Obama in 2008 is now parroting the lines of some campus-left rainbow coalitionists and it's absolutely revolting. Johnson is also offensively not-crazy, but it seems I'm resigned to supporting him despite being pretty much the opposite of a libertarian.

I don't, but I know a lot of Johnson voters who probably voted Romney last time. My parents are both voting Trump. My dad's last vote for a Democrat was the vote he regretted the most - Blagojevich in 2002. Before that was Carter in 1976. I don't think my mom has ever voted Democratic.

Wait, Cathcon is joining the ranks of Kasich/Johnson supporters, which includes known globalists like Myself and Clark? How did that happen? Shocked

My ideology is predicated on the goal of Anerican power, and having a perceptibly unstable mad man at the helm endangers that. Nixon, for all his flaws, knew to--in general--keep his megalomania below the surface. Think psychopath (Trump; experiences no external limits) vs. sociopath (Nixon; pure evil, but works only within channels he feels he can realistically win). I'm hoping for a candidate that can one day combine communitarianism, strongmanism, and moral nuance; he or she will, sadly, never emerge.

Severely disappointing. I'd fight for your vote, but it's Michigan, so eh.

I don't think I know any real-life Republican.
How is this possible? I mean, I know California college campuses are very liberal, but there must be some conservatives like RFayette, right?

It is fairly unsafe to publicly identify as right-of-center at UCLA.

Actually the only Clinton-voting Republican I know goes to UCLA Tongue

I don't know very many Republicans to begin with, and most of them are enthusiastically for Trump or enthusiastically against Clinton.

I can think of a few people I know who might fall into this category, but I'm not sure.

No and it's only establishment Republicans who are afraid of losing power from special interests if an outsider is elected.  That and Trump will force any politician out of office through bullying if needed.

My dad's been a long time conservative and this'll be his first time voting (reluctantly) democrat from what I hear.

Yeah, my dad is a registered Republican that's definitely voting for Hillary.  He was a big fan of Reagan and Bush Sr, but I'm pretty sure he's voted dem every time since 2000.  I think I played a big part in that.  Tongue

I now have one friend who finally came out of the "closet" and said he's voting for Hillary. She will be the first Democrat he has ever supported and may also be the last.
