This Election will certainly be an interesting one. The Democrats almost unanimously renominated the popular president, Birch Bayh. President Bayh got the U.S out of Vietnam, He has re-opened trade with the U.S.S.R too, though after having a balanced budget for two years, he threw that out. Political outsider Reagan emerged victorious after a brokered convention, calling for conservative values, balancing the budget, and unity. He chose Governor George Wallace of Alabama as his running mate, who is famous for his 1964 Independent bid, though the Governor has emerged as a key soldier in ending segregation in the South, almost losing re-election as Governor because of it. Let's see what happens.

I was pulling for Hiram Fong for the GOP nomination, but now that he wasn't nominated, Bayh all the way.

I don't care how many times Governor Wallace has attempted to repent for his role in propagating segregation, and I don't care that he's changed his views this late in his career. The Reagan/Wallace ticket needs to be dragged over the coals! The Democratic Party and all of America cannot stand for the unholy matrimony between the Republican Party and the State's Rights Dixiecrats.

The Presidential Election of 1976:

President Birch Bayh/Vice President Jimmy Carter: 446 Electoral Votes 56.0%
Senator Ronald Reagan/Governor George Wallace: 92 Electoral Votes 44.0%

The Election of 1976 was interesting, though President Bayh was always a favorite to win re-election, it wasn't supposed to be by such a huge, tremendous margin. Most public opinion polls had him leading by a margin of five to ten points, yet he won by over twelve points. Is the Republican Party dead? Only 1980 shall tell....

In this timeline, Ford was elected president in 1960, but assassinated in 1964, by Lee Harvey Oswald.
