So how is that a win/win? I want a chief justice who can last a couple decades.

I'd prefer a member of the Court that would last for a couple of decades.  That he gets to preside over the Senate during Presidential impeachments really isn't that important.

I'd prefer a member of the Court that would last for a couple of decades.  That he gets to preside over the Senate during Presidential impeachments really isn't that important.

He also gets to swear in the president, and he has some administrative power to set the agenda of the court.
