Whatever you think of Trump, him becoming the de facto leader of the party might just be the death knell for that vile ideology. True, Trump wants to go to war with ISIS, but he has no interest in the nonsensical 'regime change' strategies that have polluted the Republican (and, to be fair, the Democratic) party for decades.

His campaign isn't built on issues. It's built on his personality.

Economially, he's hardly a Republican. He's way too protectionist and anti-trade to fit in with the modern GOP.

Neoconservatism will be well represented by the Clinton campaign. The neocons who left the party in '72 may return home.

Probably. Most Nixonians are dead or extremely old.

No of course not. Neoconservatism will live on for a long, long time.

As much as I abhor the ideology I definitely don't think it's dying within the next 20 years. Interventionism will have to fail a few more times to put neo-conservatism over the death kneel it was at between 2007-2013.

Yes. Unfortunately, it's just getting replaced by a conservatism that wants to go to war just to kill people with no democracy spreading idealism attached.

If by neo-conservatism one simply means "intervention to change regimes," then no, probably not. Maybe for a little while, or maybe it will come back with a different name, but the question of how and why to apply military force to foreign countries is a recurrent one in American history.

He appeals to the populist wing, which does exist.
