It has been uncovered in recent years that Nixon, as a candidate in the election of 1968, potentially prolonged the Vietnam War in order to win the Presidency. LBJ spent most of 1968 attempting to end the War, and in the Fall of 1968 was very close to ending it. He had worked out a solution appealing to both parties, and was on the verge of bringing the North and South to the table in Paris, which would've brought an end to the War in 1968 with at the time only 28,000 dead. As a result of the news of possible end to the war, Hubert Humphrey, who was running as the Democratic nominee, surged ahead in the polls, and a summit in Paris might have brought about his victory in the election.

Nixon, using a back channel in the form of Anna Chennault, used his anti-communist reputation to convince Thieu that he and the South were being sold down the river by LBJ, and urged him to hold off on any negotiations until after the election. Through Chennault, Nixon promised Thieu a "better deal" than what LBJ and Humphrey were offering, after the election.

As a result, on the very eve of the planned summit, Thieu suddenly withdrew and Humphrey lost the election narrowly, and America's involvement in Vietnam continued for another seven years, with around 20,000 more dead soldiers by the War's end.

For these actions, should Nixon have been tried under the Logan Act?

I cannot think of a more valid use of the Logan Act than that situation.

No, because there really is not enough proof to tie him to this.

Exactly. If there was a smoking gun, it would be a clear use of the law (unlike the shady calls to try both Pelosi and Boehner), but no prosecutor would take this case as is.
