Yes, I think he would run then, because essentially he would be the only reasonable candidate the establishment could support (besides maybe Rubio).

I think the establishment wants him to run, even against Jeb and Walker.

He handled himself well in the rigors of a national campaign a few years ago. Plus, a wonky guy in his Mid 40s is useful for a party whose top candidates have been old (Dole, McCain, Gingrich, Romney) or dum-dums (Palin, Perry, W). He'll have been in Congress for eighteen years, with at least four years as Chairman of a key committee, so he's also qualified on paper for the office.

Perhaps he will, but there are still better establishment picks in my opinion, even if we exclude Walker and Bush. Marco Rubio, John Kasich, Rob Portman, Susana Martinez, and even Chris Christie (if he recovers politically) could be more viable options. I have a feeling that Ryan is very overrated. Even for a politician, Ryan seems untrustworthy, and he doesn't even have any experience in a statewide office. Considering the toxicity of Congress, the establishment might lean towards someone from outside of Washington, which excludes Ryan and a few other establishment picks I mentioned.

It's certainly possible. Christie keeps on reminding me of Giuliani - someone who, the more people see of him, the less people like him. The similarities keep happening. Paul Ryan could certainly take the mantle and would probably be less offensive to my senses than Bush or Christie. Still, Ryan is not confidence inspiring, and would probably not be a great nominee. However, he could save the GOP some face if it looks like Hillary is unbeatable.

However, I'm of mind the GOP needs their ass kicked in a very serious way (like 400 electorals and above) in 2016 so they get their act together in 2020, so maybe Paul Ryan isn't the right way to go.

I'd say yes. Establishment would prefer him to Rubio, who'd otherwise be an option for non-Acela Establishmentarians.

More interested in Speaker of the House or a committee chair than the Presidency.
