Albany
"The Good Life City"

Population (city): 77,434
Population (metro): 157,308

Albany is a city in southwest Georgia.  Although the city is surrounded by pecan groves, pine trees, farms and plantations, almost none of the population is employed in agriculture.  Today, health care, education, and the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany are the city's largest employers.  As a result of the recent economic downturn, unemployment remains higher in Albany than the state average. Albany continues to add more new jobs while other portions of the state are trying to stem the tide of joblessness.

Athens

Population (city-county): 115,452
Population (metro): 192,541

Athens is a city-county located in the northeastern region of Georgia.  A college town, Athens is home to the University of Georgia, which is responsible for the initial growth of the city.  Additionally, culture coexists with the university students in creating an art and music scene as well as an intellectual environment.

Augusta
"The Garden City"

Population (city-county): 197,872
Population (metro): 575,898

Augusta is a city-county located at the fall line of the Savannah River, along the border of South Carolina.  It has the second-largest regional trade area in the state behind Atlanta.  It is home to Augusta Technical College, Georgia Regents University, and Paine College.

Columbus
"The Lowell of the South"

Population (city): 198,413

Columbus is the county seat of Muscogee County and is the second largest city in the State of Georgia.  The city is home to museums and other tourism sites.  In 2007. Best Life Magazine ranked Columbus #4 on the Top 100 Places To Raise A Family.  However, crime is still a problem that plagues the city, exceeding the national average crime rate by 75%.

Macon
"Heart of Georgia"

Population (city-county): 155,369
Population (metro): 222,368

Macon is a city located in central Georgia, approximately 85 miles south of Atlanta, making the city an ideal candidate for the new capital.  The city is known for its various institutions of higher education, as well as numerous museums and tourism sites.

Savannah
"The Hostess City of the South"

Population (city): 142,022
Population (metro): 361,941

Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia and is the county seat of Chatham County.  A strategic port city in the American Revolution and American Civil War, Savannah is today an industrial center and an important Atlantic seaport.  A city rich in history, it is the birthplace of Girl Scouts founder Juliette Low, the Georgia Historical Society, the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences, the First African Baptist Church (one of the oldest black Baptist congregations in the United States), Temple Mickve Israel (the third oldest synagogue in America), and the Central Georgia Railway roundhouse complex.  While Savannah continues to struggle with crime, in 2009 the city saw a significant decrease in crimes like street robbery.
