Yes, although I'd be fine with restrictions under certain circumstances.  I would probably not want to own one because of the locking jaw.

Absolutely, especially because in some jurisdictions they were banned due to being considered "black peoples dogs" and for no other reason.

Not really, though I understand why they would bother people. It's not something I'm at all concerned about though.

Bans of this sort bother me, yes. If the behaviour of a person leads to their dog(s) being poorly adjusted, getting loose, and hurting someone that is - regardless of the dog's breed - primarily the person's fault and it is they who should be held accountable for their recklessness.

Pitbulls are known for being much more likely to carry out unprovoked assaults than other dogs. They are undoubtedly dangerous animals, especially around children. Bans don't really bother me, since I hate pitbulls, however, I'm not sure if total bans are the best way to go. Perhaps a law stating that they should be muzzled in the presence of children?

You do realize that these "unprovoked attacks" are caused by the owners of the dogs who train them to fight?

We should have a law banning people convicted of animal abuse from owning animals.

I've never really thought about it.  Obviously, the underlying problem is the dumb dude subculture of training dogs to be nasty and aggressive, not the dogs themselves.

Of course/not a dog racist

It's a lot like guns, the people wanting to ban them are almost always totally ignorant of the thing they want banned.  Probably more ignorance when it comes to pit bulls (which is amazing considering how ignorant some anti-gun people are).  I feel sorry for them, as they'll never enjoy a nice gun or pit bull.

No. Pitbulls are great dogs, but they can remove limbs, if provoked or agitated. Local bans are not unreasonable restrictions of freedom.

No they don't bother me.

I can't write someone's homeowners policy if they have a pit bull.

Pit Bulls are an inferior race of dogs.

I had a dog who was to be bait for a pitbull fight (he died a year after we got him of some autoimmune disease). Regardless of that, the problem is clearly not in the breed but in the training.

I think that is true. The only problem is that Pitbulls apparently release a pheromone that attracts a disporportionate amount of malcontents to want to own them.
I mean, for every responsible and reasonable Pitbull owner on here, there seems to be 5 hoodlums who bought them because they couldn't buy strong enough chickens.

Yes. The gentlest dog I've ever known was my grandparents' pit bull and she was absolutely loyal to the family (and she somehow knew who the family was). Her particularly loyalty was to my grandfather, to whom she was completely subservient. My aunt and uncle also have a pit bull. I think she's a different breed as she's much smaller, but she's also one the friendliest dogs I've ever known. I know that's anecdotal, but that's been my experience.

I've met quite a few pit bulls and have been real close with 3 of them, they were all great dogs.  Chows are MUCH scarier.

Small dogs tend to be the meanest (just like with human males).
