Imagining myself as a Laborite: Shorten.

I do have a vote and should be receiving my ballot shortly.

My concern, first and foremost is who can cut through and also cut the crap. I couldn't give a toss about left-right factional BS.

I'd vote for Shorten. Albanese must be stopped at all costs.

Albo.

Shorten's just boring (and it's superficial things like that which matter in leadership elections).

Who's the more left-wing of the two?

Quite frankly, knowing it would upset you is cause enough to support Albanese - oh and Shorten supports marriage equality.

I know Shorten supports it but Albanese would make it so much more of an issue.

And interestingly Paul Howes said his support for gay marriage would cause rifts in the Labor Right and accordingly decided not to contest the imminent senate vacancy in NSW.

Albanese is in the Socialist Left faction - though don't get carried away by the title (Gillard was the same).

Albanese, if only to "make it so much more of an issue".

Albanese is from the left faction - but as mentioned, it says much less than it seems. Find an issue where these two actually have significant differences?

Oh and Shorten wont have a choice on marriage equality, the internal pressure to bash Abbott over the head with it is enormous. Paul Howes' commentary is reflective of the leadership of the NSW Right - namely crackpots like Joe de Bruyn whose personal issues with homosexuality led him to hold the national conference hostage.

Albanese is closer to me politically and I think he'd make a better opponent for Abbott than boring Bill.

That's the issue - I know quite a few natural Shorten supporters who are leaning Albanese, purely for that reason. Abbott can be given no space or quarter, they don't see Shorten as a fighter.

Albo pretty easily.  Hoping he sticks to his left-wing roots, unlike Gillard.
