Would the Update thread horrify non-forumites a lot more?

Yeah I think so. As noted before we're kind of desensitized to Bushie's antics because we're so used to it and nothing he does really shocks us. Find someone who isn't like that and they'd find the whole situation quite chilling. I mean imagine without context hearing about a man in his early 30s who believes he's had two heart attacks already but shrugs it off as no big deal and continues to eat Bushie's diet. I've noticed too that forum newbies find the Update rather shocking and have a difficult time believing that it's even real. Once they realize it is there's often a big outburst against Bushie.

Yes, but I think less because of the content and more because of the phenomenon itself - they would ask themselves 'why is this man reporting all this, and why are they so obsessed with it?'.  We're all sick weirdos, lets face it.

No... he's basically an American everyman.   Your regular slack jawed loser would be very impressed with Bushie's car and the fact that he's taking any classes at all for anything.  Plus 35% of Americans over 20 are obese, his health wouldn't be all that shocking.
