Thought of this while watching "Hoffa" where RFK and Hoffa square off in Bobby's office in the early 60's. The Democrats nominate Senator Robert F. Kennedy of New York for President. In the finale of the Bobby-Hoffa feud of the 50's and 60's, however, he finds his general election opponent is Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa. The Teamsters, who support the Republicans at this point in history, are proud to have the GOP play to the Labor base by nominating Hoffa. With Kennedy's previous anti-labor politics and the support of the hippies, it looks like traditional blue collar Democrats could be easily herded into the Democratic camp. Meanwhile, this pushes Kennedy economically farther to the right than one might expect, attempting to win over upper-class liberal Republicans with discussions on free trade and fiscal caution, echoing some of the McCarthy campaign's message from the New Hampshire primary.

I would think Jimmy Hoffa would be an uber-partsian Democrat.

He was, until Bobby Kennedy went after the Teamsters in the 1950s. The IBT endorsed Nixon in 1960, I'm not sure but I think they either didn't endorse anyone or endorsed LBJ in 1964, unsure on who they endorsed in 1968, endorsed Nixon in 1972 (and Hoffa got out of jail in return), again not sure on 1976, but they endorsed Reagan in 1980. After that, they've endorsed the Democrat in every race, though reportedly came close to endorsing George W. in 2000.

If I remember correctly, there was at least one Teamsters chapter (I think in Michigan) that endorsed Bush in 2000.

Not all that surprising. As far as the labor movement goes, the Teamsters (along with the IAFF and police brotherhoods/prison guard unions) tend to be more conservative.

Bobby never had "anti-labor" politics.  It was really to cleanse the labor movement of the criminal elements within it (and I'm saying that as a very pro-labor person).
In this strange scenario where Bobby tries to appeal to the wealthy, I'd write in either McGovern or Ribicoff.

If I had one vote to grant to anyone in history who didn't become president, it would go to RFK.

Seems obvious to me. Too bad so few "liberals" these days have the stomach for a true working man's hero & instead prefer Robert "Mitt Romney" Kennedy.

I'd have probably been a loyal Humphrey man and wrote in his name.
