I think I understand what statements caused him to be banned. The timing has me confused, though.

the majority of mods supported banning him in 2012, after his latest pro-legalized kiddie sex post, but Nym wasn't yet convinced that that merited a ban.  What was different this time was that Dave himself noticed the debate, looked at the evidence, and decided to ban him.  So yeah, the timing seems kind of weird, but it's kind of an accident of when Dave decides to get involved.  From the perspective of most mods, they already supported banning him two years ago, and they still support banning him today.  So it's not like they've had a sudden change of mind here.
