Very well, but it's been kinda controversial at times.

I thought they were long gone?

Mine are, so I voted 'bad relationship'.

That's why they're distant. My "relationship" is a mere portfolio of memories - in my Dad's case very fond ones. I think I have posted this before, but I just adored the man. I have known no one more admirable, and I don't expect to meet any such person during the balance of my time on this mortal coil. We were very close.

Mom: She's a liberal, and sort of feminist.

And what exactly is wrong with either of those things, especially the latter?

I take it by that he means the type of person to get into a huff over alleged male-centric culture or something like that, which a number of folks tend to find annoying.

And we all know that liberalism is the cancer that gnaws at America's bone marrow. First introduced as the cure to our problems in 1776, it now acts as the one thing most likely to kill us.

Well, recovering.  In the case of my Mom, she's a recovering alcoholic who's also mentally ill.  Luckily we got her briefly committed back in October, and she's been sober since then.  Sorry, but there's really no other way to say it.  It's been improving, but there were some things she'd say while drunk that really hurt (like responding to my complaints about how difficult it is to deal with her by saying that I should just be glad that she accepted me when I came out).  She'd also regularly complain about her relationship with my Dad to me even before she went off the wall.  And until that, I'd always been very close to her, even though she clearly had something wrong in the head.  So I believed her all the time and ended up having an unnecessarily difficult relationship with my Dad.  Now, it's much better with my Dad, and it's getting better with my Mom.
