Some fun for the moderate and liberal members here (if you are a social con and think these people are FF's I don't mean to offend) but regardless in light of all the gay marriage outrage, who is the biggest social con HP. Mix of politicians, activist group and religious leaders here.

Rick Santorum. And for whatever it is worth, Buchanan has stated that he would not impose his views on gay rights on the country, unlike Santorum, Bachmann, Perkins, etc. I really would not include Buchanan with the rest of the bunch.

Speaking as a pro-lifer, either Fischer or Bachmann.

Changing my vote to Bryan Fischer as well. What an awful, awful person.

Bryan Fischer supports kidnapping the children of same-sex couples, is an AIDS denialist, and has called for bears and wolves to be deliberately driven extinct.

Maybe I should have put Rick Perry then? I just remember Buchanan with his comments about Aids and stuff.

Tough choice between Jerry Falwell and Bryan Fischer.  Falwell's caused more harm to Christianity and brainwashed more people than anyone I can name, and Fischer's ideology is just borderline Nazism.  I'll vote Falwell because he seems to have better name recognition.

Bryan Fischer, with James Dobson as a close second. Both of them are probably the most influential of the group, but Fischer is probably deserves the "hateful bigot" even moreso than Dobson just because the things he says are probably worse. (He says that hispanics shouldn't be allowed to enter the U.S. because they are "naturally socialistic" or something like that and once ranted about how a CMoH recipient in the Army who risked his life to save his comrades "feminized" the medal, among other lunacy).

As for the others, Jerry Falwell was a massive HP back in the day as well, even he can't measure up to Fischer's level of bigotry, and he lost most of his influence around the same time Dobson rose up. Pat Buchanan is a huge joke who holds little influence these days. Rick Santorum probably isn't going to hold elected office again, and should gradually fade away. Same with Bachmann. Maggie Gallagher and the N.O.M. are fighting a losing battle. Pat Robertson is probably going to be dead soon, and more people pay attention to Fischer and Dobson nowadays anyway. Mike Huckabee devotes more attention to his show now. Louie Gohmert is an idiot and most people outside of his district know it.

The only other one of these that could qualify is Tony Perkins, because like Fischer and Dobson, a lot of people actually listen to him, be he doesn't appear to hold quite as much influence as those two.

Some of the statements from people in this list is so ridiculous and over-the-top that it actually makes me laugh a bit (such as Pat Robertson's opinion of feminism). But Dobson and Fischer are probably the only two that legitimately make me angry.

I completely agree with what you said about Fischer, because it is completely deserved. Fischer is probably the only person on this list who could accurately be described as a fascist.

Speaking as a social conservative, probably Jerry Falwell.  After all, his TV show featured several overtly racist and segregationist Democrats back in the 60s, including George Wallace.

Tongue

But of the list, I voted Falwell since I had never heard of Fischer, but I'd change my vote after googling him.

Jerry Falwell: a truly sadistic and manipulative bucket of chum.

Michelle Bachmann: an evil, evil, evil political opportunist.  A person who actively makes the world a worse place for financial and political gain.

Those two are the worst out of that bunch.  Huckabee is a nasty little shiit, but I think he at least takes some of Jesus' teachings about compassion seriously.  Santorum I think just might be totally sincere, which is awful considering some of the remarks he's said about gays in particular, but it's better than being an opportunist.

Falwell, definitely. If it weren't for Falwell, the evangelical movement in politics wouldn't be quite as powerful as it is today.
