Santorum: 272
Obama: 266

If something like that occurred with very narrow victories for Obama in Colorado and New Hampshire and Pennsylvania but narrow victories for Santorum in Iowa, Ohio and Florida...and Santorum reached 270 electoral votes, what would be the chances that Obama could win, even decisively win the national popular vote?

Not likely at all, just like any other election.

given that it's only happened, what, twice since the direct electors amendment I'd go with "not likely at all".  such an event would give a nice spark in the ass to the national PV movement.

Rick Santorum will not win this election for one simple reason, he has no appeal to the center and he's frightening to the left (therefore he energizes them).

So, as with every election they've ever run against him, Republicans are mailing it in against Obama.
