Illegal immigration is a civil offense, not a criminal offense. Therefore, it's not really accurate to call it a "crime". The comparison to trafic violations is much closer.

Thank you for knwoing what you are talking about regarding immigration statute.

None of the less illegal immigration is bad. America isnt just for everybody. Were not the country that takes in everbody. I doubt Mexico would allow me to enter their country illegally.

Trafic violations are bad too! Do you realize how many people die in car accidents every year?

I'm not denying entering the country illegally is bad, just pointing out the actual statute.

Actually that's most of the forum's logic, we just have a few Nasos and "Sanchez"s that murk it up.

And thousands of poor, good intentioned illegal immigrants try to get here the easy way by crossing the dessert. And when they cross, they often are killed by the harsh enviroment. If we deter traffic violations (and car accidents) with tickets, we can deter illegal immigration (and its related deaths) with penalties.

Sanchez,

I agree with you we need to have closed borders so we can actually control who enters this country. I agree 100%. But right now the reality is that we don't have closed borders. That means we automatically have selective enforcement of immigration laws. Thus, our time ought to be spent targeting not just those here illegally, but more specifically, those who are here illegally and have committed crimes or are involved in the drug trade.

If we could close the border (lol, the US government do something to overcome a political prisoner's dillema issue?), then I would support an eventual path to amnesty for most of the illegal immigrants, ie. those who haven't done anything else wrong. But, we can't do anything until we have a secure border. The entire reason why it is wrong to enter the US illegally is in that it is wrong to break the law; such that the wrong cannot be of a greater magnitude than the law being broken. In the US right now, illegal immigration laws aren't very severe. In fact, they are the equivalent of a trafic violation.

Neutral.

I have nothing against the individuals doing what they think is best for them.  That said, the border needs to be protected.  The poor people already here have it bad enough, we don't need more people taking what few jobs we have left for the uneducated.  To favor more immigrants is to screw over the poor already here, which doesn't make any sense to me if you really care about the poor.

Remember kids, just cuz it's illegal, doesn't mean it's bad.

Take murder for example.

Wait, so the person who, faced with incredible poverty, instability in all facets of community and life, and unspeakable violence, decides to risk everything he has and is in a desperate plea to help himself and his family have one-tenth the life we enjoy everyday by journeying hundreds of miles across inhospitable terrain to a land where half the population thinks he is somehow a subhuman cretin despite not harming anyone is the bad guy in this story?

Illegal immigrants are massive FF's of course. You just got to love how a certain class of the  rich is being idealized as consisting from innovative entrepreneurs, proud individuals, and so on, while those that actually try to make something of nothing and challenging arbitrary, borderline immoral notions of what citizenship entails are being diabolized.
