SYRIZA seems like my kind of party, although it may be a tad too far left for me. Still, better than corruption and internal squabble of PASOK. Seriously, when are we going to get a competent democratic socialist party?

SYRIZA encouraged all the looters and quasi-criminals during the Athens riots last year.

That's what the other parties would want you to believe.

False. SYRIZA was the only party to actively back the riots, that's a fact. Their role was similar to that of the PSU in France in 1968.

Backing the riots is indeed false. They never said anything supportive of the rioters.
But they didn't exactly condemned them either. They tried to rationalize their actions and show compassion towards them by talking about ''dissapointed youths'' who have come to distrust the goverment and politics in general.

Mind you, they might have been onto something. But their refusal to unequivocally denounce the lootings and the destruction of private property hurt them politically.

It might have hurt them politically, but they did the right thing.

There isn't any good choice, but I had a friend who was related to Papandreou in primary school. So...PASOK, I guess.

Isn't that how Greek politics work? You know someone who knows someone who knows someone in politics, so you vote for them?

Of this sorry lot, SYRIZA. Or I might hold my nose and vote for PASOK. Greek politics make me glad my ancestors decided to cross the Atlantic.

Papandreou hasn't been bad at all, and he's ironically the first Greek PM with a set of balls. Much better than ND and Karamanlis, at least.

Admittedly, not exactly a high bar. Karamanlis was our own version of W.: an unqualified product of nepotism with little intention to govern but a great P.R. machine behind him.
