I just thought of this to see what reaction it would get.

Premise:

Governor Jed Barlet of New Hampshire(from West Wing) wins the Democratic nomination in 2000 after a close race with Senator John Hoynes of Texas.

The same TL happens as in real life with George Bush getting the nomination.

Any thoughts?

Bartlet/Bartlet. Bartlet would probably be a more successful politician than Clinton was IRL.

That depiction was the intention of the show's creators.

Actually, the 3rd and 4th seasons of the West Wing, which portrayed Bartlet's re-election campaign, fairly obviously made his opponent, Florida governor Robert Ritchie, a dramatization of Bush.  It was every Democrat's wet-dream election; the two are statistically tied going into debate day, Bartlet destroys Ritchie in the debate, and sweeps the election by 11%, winning Louisianna and the Dakotas in the route.  Bartlet was also every Democrats dream in that he was basically Clinton without the infidelity (lying about a disease instead).

Anyway, having voted for both Gore and Kerry (swollowing hard) against Bush, I sure as hell would have voted for Bartlet.

I'd vote for Bartlet, and he'd probably win since he would be more charismatic than Gore, talk more about the good economy, and be willing to aggressively attack Bush whenever necessary instead of just being a wimp and taking Bush's attacks.
