If Collins voted against the stimulus, I would gladly vote for her.  It's actually one of the dumbest votes she has ever made.

Bobby Jindal.
Susan Collins screwed her career up by voting for the stimulus. She has become very unpopular amoung Republicans now. But if she wouldn't have voted for it, I would vote for her.

Jindal. I would've voted for Collins if she hadn't supported the stimulus. Poor move.

I'll hold you to that when, at the age of 85, you die, still working, without any social security at all, paying 60% of your income to the government, because we are finally forced with the decision of either paying down the debt or not having an economy... which is not to say that I still expect the United States to be top dog by then.  Maybe the #4 country in the world, if we are lucky.

Not to mention that all it will likely do in the short term, is buy us an even larger economic crash three years from now.

The stimulus package did all that?  Because every Republican endorsed another, very big but not-quite-as-big stimulus package that also raised the deficit, although through "tax cuts."

I mean, I wouldn't have voted for the bill without more infrastructure investments, but it's not like America will hit a crisis point where the bulk of its revenue will be dedicated toward spaying off debts.  Obama's economic team seems fairly self-conscious about the need for long-term debt-reduction (unlike Bush?  Unlike Bushes & Reagan with vast increases in defense spending?), although we'll have to wait and see if they're serious or all talk.  History tells us it's the latter.

If we do hit a crisis point in our debt, it won't be because of any particular bill but rather decades of Congressional negligence, of both parties and then some, of the need to sacrifice the short term for long term gains.  Such is the failure of democracy.

I don't recall having said that the stimulus package is the only culprit.  It is just a manifestation of a larger state of mind.

But we are coming up on a serious tipping point (assuming we haven't already reached it) where the rest of our lives and the future of the country are going to be defined by which direction we decide to go.  If we keep up the present attitude, it will only lead downwards.

Everyone is to blame for the current rut we are in.  I think the fact that the Democrats railed against Republican spending to get elected, only to massively increase government expenditures on useless ventures (if the investment in infrastructure were the only thing in this bill, I would support it) like baling out so-called "American" auto companies that have no future, and raising unemployment benefits.

I don't want to see people starve, but paying off the mortgages of people who were careless, bailing out banks that were devious, and saving companies that were poorly managed is not going to have positive outcomes for the greater good in the long run.

This stimulus package is just another demonstration of prevalence of the "instant gratification culture" that is the real cause of 99% of this countries problems right now.

Someone should drill an implant into Walter's thick skull that:

1-The GOP base do not care if he votes for their candidates (Nor should they, considering where lives.)
2-Posting a lot about his heroes on a message board is not going to make them remotely likely to run.

of course susan collins isnt likely to run.  the righties would rather lose another election than to nominate a non-nutter.
