They also said they're going to be rolling out some more ads in NH (they have enough that they can spread it around at this point I suppose). But I was also reading on the Politico the other day that his current media buys are just some radio in Iowa, 100 points on WMUR, and nothing on the Boston channels. Seems a little neglectful of the early states...

Either he's an idiot or he's running as a third party.

Nice job, Paulites! Dollars are moving from your bank accounts (or under your beds, you conspiracy nuts!) and into the coffers of political consultants. The hard-earned dollars of gullible fool pays for nine out of every ten BMW's.

they probably think it's the best way to get delegates.  remember, they aren't playing to win.  the ideal scenario for the Paulites is that they hold the balance of delegates in a convention without a majority and get to influence the party platform or something to that effect.

Just what the GOP needs -- more crazies shaping their party's platform.

I'm hoping he's running as a third party.  Correct me if I'm wrong,  but I believe the money he's raised's so far is only for the primaries, so he might as well throw the rest of it away on the big states. I think he'll be out by February 6th.  After its clear he's lost the nomination he can go the third party route, get nominated, and start raising money for the general election.

He's doing a lot of targeted direct mail.  I speak as someone who voted in the 2006 GOP primary in SC and as a result seem to have gotten a lot of mail from him.  Yet another piece came today.  Targeting known primary voters, doesn't require a lot of mass media buys.  Although the Ron Paul blimp was good for getting him some free airtime on the local news.

Well, unless Paul actually thinks he can win NY, it doesn't pay to spend $ there, as NY is a winner-take-all primary.  He should focus on states that use either PR or WTA by congressional district....but there's no reason why he should limit that effort to states as big as CA or FL.

by your logic wouldn't it be best to skip Florida as well, since they have been penalized?  I get all this confused sometimes.  Does Florida still get delegates?  And michigan?

I think Florida and Michigan get half their delegates.

FL and MI don't have any delegates on the Democratic side, but they do on the Republican side.  However, even on the GOP side, they only have half the number of delegates they would normally get if they held their primaries on Feb. 5th or later.  The RNC has penalized all the states with pre-Feb. 5th primaries (including states like NH & SC) by taking away half their delegates.

So yeah, from a purely, $/delegate standpoint, you'd want to skip FL as well.  Except of course that by making a surprisingly strong showing in pre-Feb. 5th states, you could get positive media attention that would help you in the Feb. 5th states.  That's of course the whole point of spending on the early states, and I don't see why the logic couldn't work even for Paul, if he just has the limited goal of getting as many delegates as possible, without actually winning primaries.

Wouldn't it be funny if by some fluke, Ron Paul wins California?  hahaha

It shouldn't surprise anyone that Ron Paul is running a "national" campaign.  The point of his run isn't to actually win, it's to get his issues out there in front of the public.

That's what this money does, and I guarantee that the people giving this nut the cash are more than thrilled knowing that.

RP needs to have a good showing in IA, WY, NH and MI, but also needs to focus on the long term big states.  If he can get good numbers there, the networks HAVE to give him some airtime, and not just for raising $19.5 M in the 4th quarter.
