I have to go with Adams here. I dislike Jefferson's libertarianism.

TJ

Other than the Embargo Act of 1807, he made few mistakes.  Adams wasn't bad, he's just in an unfortanate position between 2 of the better Presidents we've had.

Thomas Jefferson. Though his predecessor John Adams wasn't to bad either.

TJ if for no reason other than the Louisiana Purchase.  Adams failed to understand the job requirements (I refer you to the Alien Sedition Acts).

Both of them have been overrated, in my opinion, but Thomas Jefferson was probably better, simply because the Alien and Sedition Acts enacted by Adams were an unconstutional attempt to destroy his opposition.

I do hope those of you who are disparaging Adams for the Alien and Sedition Acts, despite the fact that he had minimal involvement in them, will also be denouncing Wilson for the very active role he played in passing and making use of the Sedition Act of 1918.
