Mostly option 1.  I will do option 2 at times, but not exactly to the extent you have it shown as.

I write complete sentences, but I break it up a bit to prevent a wall of text.  Also, I find that doing option two has the effect of sounding like bashing one's head into the wall.

Option 3.  I find IM to be an irritating attention-hungry waste of time.  I'd often log in and within minutes I'd be juggling three conversations at once to the detriment of any other task I'm trying to perform.
