Here we go again… I really thought they would learn their lesson after the disaster with McCarthy.

Johnson didn't learn anything.

With a majority that thin it's suicidal to violate the Hastert Rule.
When a majority of Republicans voted against the funding package, he was politically dead.

Ironically the rule has had opposite effect of what it was intended for . The reason the GOP put it in place during the Bush years was since their majority was so small they knew that it wouldn’t be difficult for bills they Bush/GOP leadership didn’t approve off to pass the house and they did not want that to happen. So what they did was put that rule into place thinking the only people who could pass the majority of majority rule was congressional leadership and for a while it did exactly that but in the long run it did the opposite.

I think it was the folly of the existance of "Must pass" bills.

Practice has shown that Bills that don't pass have no real negative impact, no matter how important they are.

Depends on what we're including in this. For example, failing to pass the appropriations bills each year would result in a government shutdown, which is obviously bad. Failing to pass the NDAA leaves the military in a state of stagnation, which is obviously bad. Failing to pass an increase to the debt ceiling would mean our credit rating gets destroyed overnight (although I do think the overall economic impact would be less than many imagine).

That being said, yes, forcing through stuff like TARP probably wasn't necessary and taking a few years to reauthorize VAWA didn't really impact much.

Why was it necessary for this person to include everyone's headshot?

I thought we were playing Guess Who? for a second.

Right behind trump, this Witch has the second most narcissistic attitude in DC.
She is doing this all for attention. Hopefully some in the GOP House, beat-her-up with words, for her foolish behavior.

Full Roll Call Vote on the 1.2 Trillion Spending Spree

This begs one Question: Why is Speaker Johnson putting Bills on the Floor that ain't supported by the Majority of his own Conference?

112 Republicans voted against it, that's A LOT!

That used to be standing operating procedure.  Democrats would, back in the day, almost always need support from moderate and liberal Republicans to offset lost votes from the more conservative Southern Democrats.

It's shocking today for some because the parties are far more ideological and regimented.  The ideologically-based parties we have now are a relatively new development for those of you younger folks.  The last John Birch Society member in Congress was a DEMOCRAT (Larry McDonald, from the Marietta, GA area).  The last avowed Socialist before Bernie Sanders (Vito Marcantonio of New York) was elected as a member of the American Labor Party and caucused with the Republicans.

That couldn't happen today, and for a variety of reasons, most of which go to how candidates raise money and maintain support.

Quote
Greene says she won’t take blame if Jeffries becomes Speaker.

Greene pushed back on criticism that her motion against Johnson could result in Jeffries being elected Speaker due to the dwindling GOP majority in the lower chamber. She argued that Republican lawmakers who have cut their terms short and left office are the true ones to blame, not her.

LMAO.
Of course it would be her fault.
Delusions.

Even if he were elected Speaker can't they immediately file and call to the floor another motion to vacate? I think there is a 2 day delay. Maybe long enough to get Ukraine aid on the floor but his tenure would be short lived I think.

Not sure what co-sponsoring in itself does, but it does show there is another Republican supporting the motion to vacate.    With the House about to be 217-213 following Gallagher's resignation at the end of the week and almost certainly 217-214 for a brief period following the NY-26 Special in two weeks, if everyone votes, and all Democrats vote to vacate, all it takes is two Republicans and with Greene and Massie, that would be enough.

With that said, at this point we do not know if everyone will vote, if all Democrats would vote to vacate, or if there are any other Republicans would vote to vacate, but the nath is certainly there with a 2nd Republican

If Johnson puts up the Ukraine funding bill with no poison pills attached, I say Dems should bail him out. Of course the deal only works if he puts it up to a vote before the MtV.

The problem is if he does he’s dead the next day, if he “caves” to democrats he gone as the far right want a dysfunctional government

Looks like Johnson can either work with Dems or lose the speakership. Sad state of affairs that I'm genuinely unsure what he'll choose, this guy is a true believer.

This is just silly. Congress should pass all four bills, and Democrats should not aid these HFC tempur tantrum tactics, it was already a mistake to do it once. We don’t need another two weeks of Congress looking like a joke, and we should not judge our politics on “entertainment value.”
