"Lou Dobbs: Saving a Troubled Nation"
Lou Dobbs is on a crusade to protect our borders, our jobs, and the American dream. Can he save a troubled nation?

NewsMax finds out in a special report – and exclusive interview with America’s crusading news anchor.

The host of CNN’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” Dobbs has won plaudits – and solid ratings – with his fight against illegal immigration, the outsourcing of American jobs and the demise of America’s middle class.

NewsMax Magazine’s special report “Lou Dobbs: Saving a Troubled Nation” takes an in-depth look at the veteran newsman as he gives one of his most candid interviews yet.

The report features a wide-ranging exclusive interview with Dobbs conducted by John Browne, NewsMax Media’s Financial Intelligence editor, top aide to Margaret Thatcher and a former member of the British parliament.

Dobbs takes aim at what he sees as the problems plaguing America, and doesn’t mince words.

The “Lou Dobbs” edition of NewsMax Magazine is hitting newsstands across the country, including many Barnes & Noble, Hastings, Follett, Borders, B.Dalton, Books-A-Million, Joseph Beth and other major bookstores, as well as Publix, Meijer and Wegman’s supermarkets, and Hudson News and Paradies airport newsstands.

If the Democrats nominate another Kerry who isn't going to fight the battles on bread-and-butter issues that need to be fought and the GOP delivers an uninspiring candidate Dobbs could be a major candidate if he were to run.

I would very much like to see Dobbs run........he seems like a very good man, and I agree with him on every important issue.  I guess you never know what will happen but unfortunately, I don't think it's going to happen.

He won't run.  And I don't want him too either.  He's a modern National Socialist.

From the NewsMax.com Staff
For the story behind the story...

Tuesday, March 20, 2007 11:00 a.m. EDT
Web Site Pushes Lou Dobbs for President

A Web site, www.loudobbs4president.net, is spearheading a move to draft veteran newsman Lou Dobbs as a presidential candidate in 2008 – and NewsMax Magazine is front and center on its home page.

The site features the front page of the magazine’s March issue, showing the host of CNN’s "Lou Dobbs Tonight, along with this quote from NewsMax Magazine’s exclusive interview with the journalist who is on a crusade to protect our borders, our jobs and the American dream:

"I think something on the order of an Independent movement will come if these two parties fail the American people again.

"Look at the choices we had over the last two presidential elections. Go back to 2000 – Al Gore, a product of a family of privilege, versus George W. Bush, a product of a family of privilege; 2004 was a contest between two men from families of privilege.

Story Continues Below

"If we can’t do better than to put up mirror images of what is, frankly, not the most remarkable talent, what have we become and what are we to become?”

The Web site operators are hoping the quote becomes prophetic regarding an "Independent movement” – with Lou Dobbs at the helm.

NewsMax Magazine’s special report "Lou Dobbs: Saving a Troubled Nation” takes an in-depth look at the newsman who has made "saving our fading middle class” the centerpiece of his nightly crusade.

I don't want Dobbs to win the whitehouse, but it wouldn't be bad if he ran. The presidential debates with be much more interesting to watch with him there.

I strongly disagree with him about immigration but a quality debate in front of that large of an audience might be good thing in the long run.

I don't like Dobbs' opinions too much (immigration and trade), but he's a decent enough guy. He should run just so we get more interesting choices than just D vs. R.

There is an artilce in this business mag. about Lou, that adknowledges the campaign to draft lou dobbs by the reform party, which I was involved with starting on the RP Forum, and that GOP strategest are nervous about Lou running even though he denies interest. Ron Paul stated before that he has no plans on running, and he changed his mind, so why not Lou?

I must ask to those that don't like Dobbs' views on immigration. What don't you like about his views on immigration? Is it that you think he would be too "harsh" on his handling of the border and immigration crisis? I'm just curious.

Republican strategists are watching Lou Dobbs.

Republican strategists are watching Lou Dobbs.

The CNN anchor has been taking an increasingly high-profile role in the debate on immigration—Dobbs’s “Broken Borders” segments on his evening CNN show are famous—and he’s been harshly criticizing President Bush on the Dubai ports deal and on trade issues.

Some GOP aides think that Dobbs might be gearing up to run for president as an independent in 2008, becoming a cross between Ross Perot and the angry newsman from the 1976 movie Network, who was “mad as hell and . . . not going to take it anymore.”

As one aide to a GOP presidential contender explained, “You don’t say the things he’s saying and appear in the places he’s appearing unless you’re contemplating something.”

With several border states in play in 2008, a third-party immigration/jobs candidate could make the 42 electoral votes of Arizona, New Mexico, and Florida much harder to win—and, as Ralph Nader showed in 2000, third-party candidates can tip a close race.

Dobbs says a candidacy is out of the question: “I can tell you quite forthrightly it has never entered my mind to run for even a nanosecond. And I can assure you that it never will.”

As for his political affiliation? Dobbs says he’s a solid independent: “Both parties are such a disappointment to me right now. I can’t find a significant difference between them.”

It's been a while seen I watched his show so I might leave something out that disagree with him on. I think he wants me to feel outraged that illegal immigrants are coming based on the principle alone(I can't see things this way because I know people that do and when they defend their position it always becomes an irrational xenophobic rant when they talk long enough(they end up contradicting things they say they believe in)). I know he cites the problems with illegal immigration but I seems like if he could fix those problems independently without deporting anyone or building a wall he wouldn't.

An example of a position of his that demostrates he believes the principle should be enforced independent of consequences for people is:

Illegal immigrants getting driver licenses. He is outraged that it can happen but I think that the reason drivers licenses exist is a public safetly issue and we shouldn't see illegal immigrants driving less dangerously as a bad thing.

Also I think he wants to make english the official language and I don't agree with that(I don't believe whether or not we encourage people to cross the boarder should be a deciding factor in making a decision that could needlessly make life more difficult for alot of people).

Another thing I disagree with him on is children of illegal immigrants. He wants to make it so they're not citizens and I don't agree with him. He probably supports some governors decisions(like in nebraska) to not allow in-state tutition for children of illegal immigrants who would otherwise be eligible even if they are still considered u.s. citizens. I don't believe someone should be penalized for who their parents were legally.

If Lou Dobbs runs, I will do everything in my power (which isn't much) to make sure he doesn't win.  He is one of the worst possible candidate who could run.

Which wacko minor party would want him?
I can't imagine he could raise the $10 million to get on the ballot in most states as a true unaffiliated independent?

Yes ideally people should distigish between people who are motivated by  sovereignty reasons and racism. That's difficult because sovereignty motivated people don't publicly criticize racists who support them on the immigration issue very often.

Both of them sound like scapegoating because the act of illegal immigration doesn't hurt anyone directly.

(Edit): I don't actually think Dobbs is a racist. I think he wants to create a unity for the country and since illegal immigrants are breaking a law he feels it's okay to make them the enemy to rally around. I don't support this but it shouldn't be suprising that he has both a following and an opposition.
