If the United States is a center-right country, Oregon is centrist.  It's more liberal than the national average, most certainly.

Oregon is one of only 4 government entities in the world that allow physician-assisted suicide (the other 3 being Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands)

Which is surprising, because it's not as unpopular of legislation as you might think.  I imagine it could probably pass here too by now - it failed with 46% in 1994.  I can't see a reason for it doing better in Oregon than Washington.

But I would love to hear Naso articulate how Oregon is centre-right.

Oregon, like all the West Coast states is a weird mix of liberals in the cities (Portland, Eugene in this case) and Western, libertarian conservatives in the interior. Both are suspicious of authority, particularly religion.

This is Naso's clever, analytical reasoning:

Yes I do, and the fact that Kerry only beat Bush 51-47 in Oregon back in 2004, and in 2000 Gore won it by 46.9 to 46.5 shows that it is center-right, and I think McCain could pull it.

Oh and no Republican candidate will win Oregon or New Hampshire in 2008, so dont put them in any maps for reps.

I could see Giuliani winning both (depending on the opponent)...and I wouldn't write McCain off just yet.

Good, now we can save time and money on an election.

Republican primary winner 286
Democrat primary winner 251
Democrat second banana 1

I would.  Only because the only way to win in 2008 will be to support withdrawl from Iraq and McCain is currently putting his eggs in Bush's Iraq basket.

It's voted Democratic in 5 consecutive Presidential elections, has a 4-1 Dem majority in the House delegation, has had a Dem governor for quite a while now...I'm going to have to go with a no.

It also has a Democratic majority in both houses of the Oregon legislature, so it's not even Republican at the state level like some states are.
