Speaking of France, one of the best arguments against socialism is seeing, first hand, what Mittarand(sp) did to Paris.  Yuck

I don't think Mitterand did that bad a job. If you want to see some really hideous Socialist architecture, check out what the Soviets did to Konigsberg/Kaliningrad (for now falling down that old trap of equating socialism with communism).

As for the main topic, sure, why not.

Would you have likely ran amok at the DNC in Chicago 26-29 August 1968 as well?

You really don't think that the new Opera House in Paris looks like a pumping station?

I'd organize a coup to crack down on the hippies, retake algeria and make an example of the algerians.

Hah, you people should have a look at the typical hideous American suburb!

The land of corporation chain standardization is far more homogenous and dull than the old socialists were.

You mean this one?

Hmmm, it's a matter of taste, I suppose.

Still, it cannot compare to this monstrosity in Kaliningrad...

Especially when you consider what used to be in its place:

Breaks my heart, it just does.

Well one could classify totalitarianism as the reduction of life to sh**t.

American capitalism has reduced architecture to sh**t just as effectively.  Have you ever looked at a suburban sprawl?

That is true but I was getting more specific than that.

Suburbia's pretty cruddy, sure, but this is worse:

I agree the building itself doesn't look bad at all, particularly if the rent were cheap.  The only thing I dont' like it the useless space between buildings - looks almost suburban.

I remember finding the density of Geneva almost ideal:

Basically a city of half a million, but averaging about 6 stories in height, closely spaced.

I also like the density level and layout of traditional Southeast Asian cities.

Suburban houses are essentially the same as commie blocks. Unattractive buildings built as a cheaply as possible.

Not sure. I got it from a 'soviet architecture' search. The cars suggest it's Russia or the eastern bloc anyway.
