Detroit is an actual city with culture, sports teams, music, and history. I'm sure Youngstown has some of those, but I don't think I could tell you anything I associate with Youngstown except that it's in a county that voted Clinton-Trump.

And I've been to Detroit, and at least the part I was in was probably the most damaged and dangerous-feeling neighborhood I've been to anywhere in the US.

The only thing Youngstown has going for it is it's easy to take a daytrip to Pittsburgh or the Cleve.  That's like two rust belt cities for the price of one.

I'm licensed to practice law in Ohio and have family in Pittsburgh, so nearly Youngstown. Remove those factors, though, and Troy is actually starting to see some very very nascent regrowth, which cannot be said in any way about Youngstown.

Detroit might be a dystopian wasteland, but it has a certain charm to it nonetheless.

Youngstown is just downright depressing.

When you type Youngstown Ohio into Google and click NEWS, something really weird happens.

How have people from outside of Michigan even heard of Troy?

Most white Michiganders you meet outside Michigan are from Oakland County. The educated ones, at least.

The recent resurgence of Michigan Basketball has reminded me that their fans are, somehow, indeed worse than OSU fans.  While the worst OSU fans are ignorant boars who belch out arrogance due to the simple fact that they really are that good at everything ... the worst Michigan fans are nasty and cartoonish caricatures of truly archetypal dovchebags.  Youngstown!

Eh, while Youngstown is in a pretty sorry state, the western edge of the city is still a safe working class neighborhood. Youngstown's decline was mostly last decade and last largely stopped at this point. It has a lot of work to do, but I think it's clearly in better shape than Detroit. I'll take Youngstown.

I've always loved Detroit the few times I've visited. People are very nice, the barbecue is good, the blues is good, lots of history. Such a shame how we let our great industrial cities collapse.

I don't know Youngstown, but all terms to describe Youngstown are used to describe Detroit to people that know less about the US ironically, so perhaps Youngstown is Detroit on steroids?
