You know wherever this topic a go to talking point is about how cancel/political correctness/the woke left/“the mob” have destroyed innocent civilians lives but there never is an actual example given of that happening. This idea of the pc mob dog piling on some average Joe and ruining their life is always alluded to but never specified

I have a difficult time wrapping my head around the fact that anybody, much less anybody on the left, seriously believes that using Twitter outrage as a social enforcement mechanism is helpful. Even if the people who got targeted were all wealthy celebrities who could more or less roll with the punches, it would still be a fundamentally unhealthy and unserious way of pursuing the social goods it's ostensibly meant to further.

Furthermore, how will voting stop it provided that it is happening?

I think the problem lies with people in charge of stuff, who are now increasingly quelling every little controversy, regardless of merit, more than some randos on Twitter who have always existed, but used to just be ignored.

bull spit, I've been ignored doing it in the past.

the "I hope I don't get AIDS." lady

the lady that fake screamed at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

2 people fired, and some revenge hacking over a bad dongle (as in computer hardware) joke

Should I go on?

People get fired all of the time for being “edgy”. A lot of people no they are doing something that they shouldn’t be boat still do things anyway because they think it would be funny and rememberable and they grossly underestimate the gravity of what they are about to do. ie “I thought that was only going to be a civil issue or a misdemeanor “. If anything, this really isn’t an issue about “cancel culture” but maybe an issue with people not having the life skills needed to get along in groups of people. I guess, with that, the utilitarian approach would be to both raise awareness and encourage more personal responsibility and in having these skills. The more progressive approach would be to simply raise awareness of people who struggle and “try to hard” or whatever  and the more conservative approach would be to call out the cancelled for their  lack of personal responsibility. No irony intended.

Beyond that, I just don’t see systemic bias preventing an honest discussion above and beyond what either side of the aisle of any major policy issues does. Let alone how such a problem could be addressed through public policy. I’ve offered a bunch of possibilities but people just ignore it. I guess they were dumb ideas but I haven’t seen anybody come up with any ideas.

I am saying all of this as someone who maybe lost their last chance at their first career over an inane joke. To my credit, I did try to think it through but the thought process was really retroactive excuses over impulses.

I think it comes down to conservatives being mad that they've tried to cancel everything they don't like for decades and it always has failed and now people are actually canceling all the things they hold deer but are not very slightly in the public eye of today.
