While there are certain things I'm critical of when it comes to Tanden, it's ridiculous GOPers complaining about her Twitter feed after the last 4 years. It's evident a woman of color is held to different standards than an old white dude. If she was a white man with the same records, her nomination would have been passed. Perhaps not with 70 votes, but at least 55 or 60.

Imagine thinking the term "South Asian Americans" means anything from an identity standpoint (let alone "Asian Americans").

Isn't it just a more PC term for "Desi"?

I don't even understand how saying Desi isn't "PC." We are literally out in the open in calling ourselves Desi's.

it's really patronizing when anyone speaks for an entire minority group

You just said all Mexicans hate masks and blamed them for Abbott getting rid of all COVID safety measures.

Not only that, this is the caricature of silly identity politics that Republicans like to run against and it's very ineffective politics at that. If Democrats really wanted to appeal to South Asians they should fix the issues with H-1B visas and the green card queue.

again immigration is not the sole or even primary concern of many naturalized immigrants and their children - their concerns and issues mirror other americans' issues like schools/taxes/roads/etc, it is beyond patronizing to say we'll let more ppl who vaguely look like you in if you vote for us

Good riddance. The fact that Republicans aren't held to a high enough standard because of the garbage they spew doesn't mean Tanden shouldn't be held accountable.

Good. We don't need such controversial people in office. I'm sure she would do a good job since Biden had confidence in her, but I'd rather have someone more acceptable to both sides.

Unfortunate that she has been held to different standards. I'm especially disappointed in Manchin because he voted for a ton of very controversial Trump nominees for various offices, whose records were far worse than a bunch of mean Tanden tweets. Bernie would have more reason to oppose her, but I doubt he would have done so as a deciding vote.

I could have lived with her still being confirmed but libs have no right to complain about this. If you think mean tweets should disqualify someone from office than that applies to everyone, not just the other side.

https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2021/03/03/the-three-factions-set-to-face-off-over-tandens-replacement-491970

Some interesting stuff here:

Quote
Sinema: Though she didn’t publicly commit to backing Tanden, three White House sources insist that Sinema would have been a yes.

Quote
Three White House sources said that Sanders would have been a yes vote on Tanden if the White House had been able to find a Republican vote to replace JOE MANCHIN, the Democrat from West Virginia who started all of this by publicly opposing her Feb. 19.

But Bernie’s mittens are not clean.

By withholding his support Sanders left Tanden twisting, fostered an atmosphere of a nominee in trouble and made it unlikely for any Republican to step forward in support. Why would a GOP senator break with her leadership unless she was certain she was providing the decisive vote?

Quote
Alaska has been the target of early executive actions from President JOE BIDEN pausing drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and stopping all new federal leases for oil and gas drilling, and Murkowski tried to use her leverage over Tanden’s nomination to ease the impact of some of the new Biden restrictions.

On Monday, JOHN THUNE of South Dakota, the No. 2 Senate Republican, was surprisingly chatty with reporters in describing what he believed Murkowski was after.

“There are some policies the administration’s taken already with respect to energy that are very harmful to Alaska,” he said. “She obviously wants to get their attention on some things that are important to her state.”

Thune’s comment got the attention of progressives: Some of them started to freak out about whether the White House might trade important energy or environmental policy to secure Murkowski’s vote.

Thune’s gambit, if that’s what it was, helped. He had turned the effort to secure Murkowski’s vote into what looked like unseemly horse trading. “It was a little too this for that,” said the Democratic source close to the deliberations.

So, while it all ties back to Manchin as the man who started the tumble, in the end it became a choice between Murkowski's vote and a Biden Liberal Energy Policy. Progressives chose the latter.

Of course, if Manchin had just been obedient, progressives would not have to choose between the two.

From the ashes a TakeTM shall be woken,
A snipe from the shadows shall spring,
Restored shall be posts that were broken,
A 'net troll, online, is still king.

Put aside the OMB. Become the grifter you were born to be.

Women are always held to different standards. It's always been that way. Some people are just now catching up to this I guess.

I mean, as much as I don't like her, she was far less egregious a pick than Andrew Puzder or Ronny Jackson who got much less coverage at any stage.

RIP HP. Obviously it is sickening that she was sunk for those tweets when Kavanaugh and Bill ing Barr sailed right on through with these same senators but since it's Neera I'm not going to lose any sleep.
