Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.
I'm no stranger to foul language or crude jokes, though I invoke it often to emphasize a point or an emotion. Language is a weird thing, and absent profanity I do not believe it can be used authentically. Perhaps cussing should be limited in the context of speaking more gracefully, though I'll often employ a cuss or two even in positive contexts. So this one's a struggle for me. Of course, in private company I'm fairly off-limits when it comes to language, but when talking to strangers I definitely hold back on what I say to them.
