Rousseau really needed to have defined the thing he called "the general will" better. Even philosophers are unclear what he meant by it.

I am not convinced that any government that ruled in accord with "the general will," necessarily, will be any more moral than one that didn't, since the whole premise of it is based on the natural good intentions of most members of society cancelling the malevolence of a few.

marginal Freedom Fighter. His ideas were generally good if unclear and too vague, but they did generally lead to positive outcomes, as he was one of the ideological fathers of the American Revolution.
