The Byzantine Empire was Christian, the Ottoman Empire was not; that's the only justification needed for me to answer that question.

The Byzantine Empire was actually quite a civilized society. Although the Ottoman Empire was also civilized, I would rather live in a Christian country.

Not the same word as Constantinople, which obviously comes from the Emperor Constantine's name, but it comes from it's original name, Byzantium, I believe.
