I think both groups are clearly scum - one stereotyped "right" the other "left".  Though there may be a few twisted individuals here who actually support one of these two, for the rest of us it is a moral dillema - can we judge one of these acts worse than the other, and if so which one?

Well, children are less able to defend themselves in such a situation and probably are not making the decision that puts them "in the firing line," so I'm a bit more bothered by that, not for the politics of it but for who is being "abused." But clearly both types of spitters are pretty sad excuses for human beings.

The worse people are the ones who spit on veterans.  The kids in the schools never put their lives in danger of being killed by gureilla gooks.

They both sucked, but the people spitting on the kids far outwiegh the annoying protesters.

So the worse one is the ppl spitting on kids going to school during desgregation.

Option 2. Adults should never treat children like that.

I agree.

An adult can comprehend what is going on and can face up to it and fight back. A child cannot and should never be treated like that by anyone.

Option 2, for the reasons already given. Still, option 1 is pretty bad.

Both are pretty bad.  #2 is probably worse, but #1 is awful too.

Speaking of that, I was reading a book called "Brown vs. the Board of Education" and it told the story of Ruby Bridges, a little girl in New Orleans who was enrolled in a previously all-white school in November 1960.

There was a woman outside the school who used to tell Ruby that she would poison her for going to the white school.  At some point in the school year, her teacher found a whole bunch of uneaten lunches that Ruby's mother had sent to school with her.  The poor child had been afraid to eat.

Both are quite bad. Number 2 is probably slightly worse.

You say it as if the kids were draft dodgers.

And I'll bet you quite a few of those kids went on to fight later on in the war.

Wow that is really f'd up.  I agree both were horrible, but its worse to do it towards the kids, which in part that story shows.

The story is f'ed up.  But I could also I'm sure find a story about a young soldier who was drafted or volunteered, went to Vietnam to serve his country, maybe was injured or not, but surely risked his life, and returned home to hateful anti-war demonstrators who blamed him for a war they didn't like, and attacked him after having lived in safety and comfort while he suffered and risked his life.  That's a horrible thing too.
