Neither should. Building codes are obviously a matter of health and safety, and zoning laws need to be in place to prevent uncontrolled sprawl. I live in a place that doesn't have zoning restrictions, I wish it did.

Neither should be abolished, but both are in need of significant reform, especially zoning laws.

The safety ones should remain while the NIMBY ones should be abolished.

I hope you all realize that zoning laws aren't all just NIMBY bs, they're necessary to have any sort of urban planning instead of endless terrible sprawl which leads to awful traffic and generally sucks.

Flip that. You actually think suburban sprawl would be built without subsidized highways, gas, and morgages; required parking minimums and setbacks; and height, land use, and density restrictions? Bullsh**t! It's all artificial and created by the government. A world without zoning looks like Tokyo, not Atlanta.
