Historically, Massachusetts has consistently been on the cutting edge socially. It is likely the most progressive state in the country in that sense.

Massachusetts. The whole state is a giant college campus with the only republican pockets being the south shore, NH border, and Worcester county

Massachusetts. NY has the upstate but even in Mass the (mostly) rural counties are blue.

Boston doesn't have equivalents of Staten Island and Orthodox Jewish Brooklyn.
