If Barack Obama wanted his nominee confirmed he should have nominated a conservative.  It was the will of the Senate.

They still would have blocked them. Does anyone else remember when he appointed Chuck Hagel, a Republican former Senator, to be his Secretary of Defense? I remember getting calls to my house from conservative groups about how bad he would be.

Hagel was blackballed by the Republicans because he had the audacity to question Bush's quagmire.

I also recall some odd anti-Zionist accusations.

Nominations to the lower courts have been blocked by the minority forever That is not new. What is new is taking that to the Supreme Court.

No, the Senate held over seats during the Presidencies of John Tyler, Andrew Johnson, and others.

If the Dems can hold the seat vacant for the 2018 midterms, Schumer vows to do this, the Dems can get what Pat Leahy said a mainstream woman, not a Harriet Myers type, but a mainstream conservative woman from the Midwest, that can toe the line on abortion.

Kavanaugh was a reactionary hack from the Bush administration being nominated to the second-most powerful court in the country with an eye at a potential Supreme Court seat. In a vacuum, he absolutely should have been blocked, just like Goodwin Liu should have been blocked by the reactionary forces of Congress who could see SCOTUS in his future.

This mind-numbing judicial gridlock is perfectly rational if you care at all about capturing control over America's least democratic levers of power. It's almost like it needs a complete overhaul or something.

I also recall some odd anti-Zionist accusations.

He gave an interview where he used less than ideal phrasing to get across the idea that there are a number of members of Congress who are intimidated by AIPAC and other interests lobbying on behalf of Israel and/or her interests. He also appeared to suggest that Israel committed war crimes in its offensive in Lebanon in the mid 00s. Which, as someone who firmly believes that a number if our own IC professionals committed war crimes does not offend me, but I can understand and appreciate how that comment may have offended.
