So long as we retain the absurd notion of separation of powers between the legislature and the executive, I think we should consider alternative ways to force accountability. I propose that each House of Congress have a weekly Question Time where the leader of one side will basically listen and answer to questions and complaints from the other side. And, of course, the majority will be free to respond and question the opposition.

Personally, I think this is a great idea, not to mention entertaining for the general public.

PMQs is horrible, it's the definition of substanceless, scripted playground politics. A US version would probably be even worse.

Maybe it's just me, but I find it quite entertaining. I really don't know how scripted it is, but I've always liked that it forces leaders to think quickly on their feet. I've always found it ironic that candidates like Kerry and Hillary Clinton would likely excel in that format and those like GWB and Trump would fall apart.

I do remember that President Obama tried something like that with Congressional Republicans early in his term. I don't recall him being the one to stop such a practice.
