Does Joe Cunningham have any appeal whatsoever to pick up disaffected Sanford voters?  He's noted as a lawyer and yoga studio owner--I don't think that weighs in his favor in this district.  But if he can reach out to the other side, he could probably get into the mid-40s.

He's in favor of lowering the Medicare eligibility age, believes in climate change, supports abortion rights, anti-LBTQ discrimination legislation and is pro-gun control.

While he's a candidate I would vote for, that's not a recipe for a victory in this district, let alone getting to 40%.

If the DCCC knew that Sanford was going to be in danger, they should have tried to recruit a stronger candidate (maybe, Leonidas Stavrinakis?)

I don't see why not, after PA-18 which was D+20, or AZ-8.

Cautiously optimistic, but sure.

I’ll go one step further and ask who amongst us predicted that Democrats would gain a seat out of SC and fail to get anything out of NC?

No, Democrats can not win SC-01 until they can win Charleston County more comfortably. That being said places like Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island fit the same mold as SE Charlotte and North Fulton in Atlanta plus downtown Charleston has become heavily gentrified so its moving the Democrats way but Clyburn district will probably pick up more of Charleston soon.
Well, I came close to predicting it.

As a resident of Charleston, I was not shocked to see Arrington lose. Even among Charleston Republicans, she was not very popular. Unfortunately, the only people who voted in the primary were her rabid fan base.

The north carolina gerrymander is much more brutal and they had a chance to redo it mid decade. Also it combines urban and rural areas allowing the trends and counter trends to counter each other,

Maybe, but most had NC-09 falling first. Tbh, I think a lot of people would have predicted NC-02 and NC-13 to fall as well before SC-01.
