Even if he was largely a failure, I still think he is one of the best creatures the Latin American right has ever produced. Not that that's hard, of course.

Ended around 80 years of corporatist dominance in Mexico and beat the PRI machine (albeit a much weakened one by the time he was running). His election helped steer Mexico closer towards liberal democracy.

FF regardless of his politics.
