A Different America- 1988 Election Edition

Congressman Paul selected Former candidate Ed Clark as his running mate because his decisive victory over his GOP rivals allowed him to select an Libertarian running mate. They are running on getting rid of the income tax, ending the drug war ,reducing tensions with the USSR by withdrawing half the troops the US has stationed in Western Europe,  and most important of all shrink the size of the fereal government to back where it was in the 1920s which means repealing the New Deal and Great Society

On the other hand Senator Gore selected Former Governor Brown as part of a backroom deal to win the nomination.  While Jesse Jackson and his biggest supporter Mayor Sanders were outraged by this deal they decided not to run third party in fear of a Ron Paul victory. Gore/Brown are running on raising the income tax of the top 1% to 40% while providing tax cuts to the the bottom 95% of Americans. They are also running on mandating companies provide at least paternity and maternity leave to all its employees and provide them with 1 week  sick leave and 10 days of vacation though all of it can be unpaid. He is also running on reforming the welfare system instead of getting rid of it by making sure the people who use welfare , use it to help them improve their lives and no use it to as way of life. They also say  they would reduce crime by making sure the people in the country are better educated and by mandating stricter sentences for violent criminals. Lastly Gore also promised to bring back JFK's foreign policy of Pragmatism instead of using Reagan's foreign policy of aggressiveness

The early projection tell us that the election wont be a easy win for Gore like most polls suggested and we could be in for another repeat of 1960 tonight

Paul currently has  a major lead over Gore. It's not over by any means yet but its getting harder and harder for Gore to win .

At 2:30 AM eastern time the networks can project that Senator Al Gore has won Michigan, Kentucky, and Georgia meaning that Senator Al Gore will be the next president with 308 electoral votes to Congressman Paul's 230. Now here's the map

Senator Gore/ Former Governor Brown 308
Congressman Paul/ Ed Clark 230

While Paul was able to get many votes of Anti War Dems it wasnt enough to offset votes of many Republicans who either stayed home or voted for Gore

Now we will head to Paul's campaign for a concession speech

Paul: I will like to congratulate Senator Gore for winning the presidency. I would also like to thank my supporters for all your support in this campaign and while we didnt win we have started a movement of shrinking the size of the federal back to where it was 60 years ago and  a government which abides by the constitution instead of trying to exploit it for there own political power.

Now for Gore for his victory speech

Gore: Thank You, Thank you, and I am thankful for this opportunity to be your next president. While we have some troubles in the next 4 years, we will get over them and make sure the country never has to go through those troubles again. I will never forgot that this electoral victory belongs to you so I will work as hard as possible sure to fulfill all my campaign promises.

Now for the congressional races

In the House the Democrats had a net gain of 4 seats and now hold 262 seats compared to the Republicans 173. In the Senate the Republicans had a net gain of 1 seat by making gains in Montana, and Mississippi , Florida, while the Democrats made gains in Nevada and Connecticut .
