Pointless in my opinion and removes a lot of the original quality.

So I stumbled on the original recording of Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair by La Dispute. It's a good album and before that I'd only ever listened to the 10th anniversary remastered version on Spotify (for whatever reason they don't have the original version). So I gave the original a try, thinking it wouldn't be much different but holy shit it was so much better. While the remastering made it more "clean cut" it also softened the instrumentals and took away a lot of the little quirks that added a lot to the first album. Which... really do a lot especially contributing to a more emotional, atmospheric album like this one.

Depends. It's a case-by-case thing. The aforementioned La Dispute remaster was cool to hear it in a different mix, but I agree that the original had a lot more grit and emotion, so I prefer that. Dance Gavin Dance remastered their Acceptance Speech record, which is the one that got me into them, and it was like hearing it for the first time again. The mix was so much more clear and crisp and even though I have a lot of sentiment attached to the original mix, the remaster was soooo much more pleasant to listen to.

There can be some that are good because the remasters are good (Re-Powered within by DragonForce comes to mind, they brought out the backing vocals a lot), others are good because there’s a new song that’s great (once again DragonForce’s Sonic Firestorm remaster is great simply because Cry of the Brave, previously Japan-Exclusive, was on it. That’s my favorite song of theirs I think
