These are from one of those kinds of sites and I skipped a few that are honestly more important skills to have but were extra abstract (such as knowing how to admit you were wrong) or were pretty wanky ("can you travel hack??") or redundant. I also added a few I thought it left out that I thought of or found on other places.

Things I could do at 30 (I haven't learned any new ones since then):

Swim
Change a tire
Jump start a car
Cook an egg
Communicate with new people
Negotiate
Tell a story
Read a map and navigate without gps etc
Parallel park
Prepare and cook a real meal
Google efficiently
Touch type (you should seriously know how to do this LONG before 30, if you graduate high school today and you can't there's a problem.)
Do your laundry (See above.)

I'm not sure what's meant by "Program" if it refers to computer programming/coding I can do a little bit of that, but there's no reason why anyone has to if unless it's their job. And I've made a few basic websites too, but once again, that's not really something anyone aside from a professional web designer needs to do anymore.

I marked all except for:

 - CPR
 - Speaking more than one language well (I can speak some Spanish, just not well)
 - Sew
 - Sing or play an instrument (I don't think anyone would love my singing voice)
 - Drive a manual transmission

The last is particularly humiliating for me. I had a poor learning experience with a manual, gave up on it and have never had the need to know how.

One my least knowledgeable subjects is anything having to do with a car. And one of my least desirable activities is domestic housework other than keeping things organized and dust-free.

"Basic car maintenance" is a weird one too. That would sound like it'd refer to things like oil changes...which the vast majority of people can not do on their own, and is a rather cheap and easy to procure procedure.

Jump start a car: Yes, have done it
Program: Only basic knowledge from school
Make a website: Did it in school, never needed it later
Cook an egg: Yes of course

Dress yourself appropriately: LOL, yes
Communicate with new people: Yes

Negotiate: Yes
Tell a story: Yes

For someone who claims to be such a champion of the poor and marginalized, you clearly don't know very many.

I work four jobs, spend every dollar I make, and have little free time on account of it. I work with plenty of people who do the same. So get off your high horse with this pedantic bullsh**t 'hurr TNF doesn't know poor people because he doesn't know there are people who don't know how to swim derp'.

Yeah, it must be a cultural thing.

There's that whole thing that "blacks don't know how to swim" because in big cities public pools, beaches and vacations would be the main method of learning to swim.  And, of course, black people were kept from joining the YMCA or swimming at a public pool or beach.

But, in more rural areas, you have the ole swimmin' hole or whatever and swimming is not such a racial/class division thing.

Basically. But it's also an issue for a lot of Asian immigrants. My dad grew up in a well-to-do Middle Eastern family and never learned how to swim. I know a lot of people with Indian/Pakistani/Southeast Asian/etc parents who don't know how either due to the general cultural norms and expectations there.

I think you can allow that this is something you get into gradually. You can still type pretty fast without being completely independent of your sight. The one that concerns me is sewing. A small number of people may just not have the hand-eye coordination for it but otherwise basic sewing is an important life skill for self-reliance in a lot of situations, plus it will save you a lot of money on clothes and gear if you can repair them.

To tie together what bedstuy and IndyTX said, my grandparents all learned how to swim as children but neither of my parents can swim. My grandparents were raised in riverine rural Bengal, whereas my parents grew up in congested Dhaka and had no occasion to learn.

that assumes it's a static object, to be discovered.

I voted for swim, cook an egg, dress yourself, give a speech, tell a story, defend yourself, and read a map.
