Vito Marcantonio was a congressman from Harlem in the 30's who started his career as a Republican.  He was supported by the Communist Party and even voted against the Korean war, the only congressman to do so.  Larry McDonald, a Democrat from the Atlanta suburbs (late 70s- early 80s) was president of the John Birch Society until his plane was shot down by the USSR (KAL 007).

American Labour Party. Marcantonio was occasionally endorsed by the Republican Party, but he never caucused with them.
