O'Malley is a generic liberal who probably won't inspire the left,

That's how he's seen on this forum, but it's not actually true in real life.

Okay, maybe he will inspire the left a little, but I'd say that his political views and actions as governor are definitely a prime example of a typical liberal Democrat. Either way, he would still lose to Pence.

Yeah I mean he is generic D on the issues, but what people say about Martin O'Malley in real life does not at all resemble the antipathy universally given toward him on this board

I'm pretty sure most people in real life (unless they're from Maryland) don't even know who Martin O'Malley is.

This poll shows 80% of NH Democrats don't know him.

Pence's reputation as a Tea Partier and also as a Hoosier would hurt him with indies I think. They're both pretty generic candidates but I think Pence's reputation + the general Dem advantage electorally right now gives it to O'Malley.

His "Reputation as a Hoosier?" what does that even mean?

Michigan goes Republican? kthxbai.
Call me when Martin O'Malley is a good candidate.
Call me when Mike Pence is a good candidate.
I don't totally disagree with this, but there's a valley between the two.

Not to mention, Pence's vocational education policy will appeal to the blue collar Michiganders.
Vocational Education Policy isn't going to help win a state that has been won by Obama twice, in 2008 with an eighteen point margin. Also, he's a Tea Partier, Michigan doesn't like their Tea Party, unless their in specific Congressional district.

And Bubba won Arkansas twice. Point?

I think being from Indiana would be seen as a negative like being from Massachusetts is. Maybe I'm biased because of my closeness, but Indiana is seen as absurdly right-wing.

Between Govs. Pence and O'Malley, how would this election shape up? Discuss with maps.
Pence ran behind Romney in Indiana in 2012. That leaves me with the impression that he is a poor candidate.

O'Malley's political talents aren't tremendous, but he unseated a sitting Governor and beat the guy by more than ten points in a rematch in a very Republican year.

Half the time I'd expect O'Malley to win, perhaps slightly more narrowly than Obama in 2012.

O'Malley/ Klobuchar- 285 Electoral Votes
Pence/ Ayotte- 253 Electoral Votes

Pence could win if there's a favorable environment, and O'Malley makes a few gaffes, but I would expect it to be fairly modest.

Pence/ Rubio- 279 Electoral Votes
O'Malley/ Castro- 259 Electoral Votes

And O'Malley could win in a landslide in a favorable political environment, but Pence makes some serious mistakes. Although it's unlikely to be different from the 2008 map due to how conservative many Republican states are.

O'Malley/ Gillibrand- 384 Electoral Votes
Pence/ Jindal- 154 Electoral Votes
