For purposes of this poll, only the "major" statewide offices (governor and United States Senate) are considered. Politicians with an asterisk (*) held elected office as Democrats at some point prior to holding office as Republicans.

David Treen (Governor, 1980-1984)
Buddy Roemer* (Governor, 1991-1992 as Republican; Governor, 1988-1991 as Democrat)
Mike Foster* (Governor, 1996-2004)
David Vitter (U.S. Senator, 2005-present)
Bobby Jindal (Governor, 2008-present)

Knowing this forum, this should be unanimous. And I have no problem with that:

Buddy Roemer. No contest.

I voted Roemer; he was a decent Governor and I like what he did in terms of campaign finance reform.

Of the ones who were actually Republicans for their entire careers, Treen is pretty clearly the best.
