Abominations. Dismantle and use the materials for halfway-decent vernacular architecture if possible, warehouses or something if not. I actually think the third looks worse than the first two, which seems to be an uncommon opinion.

Would like to live into (non-hypocrite).

I wouldn't.  Having a huge home with huge grounds is way more upkeep trouble than it's worth; as Nix points out they're probably energy-inefficient in the extreme, and I'm pretty sure that no dwelling that looks like that will have the sort of transit access that I would desire/require.

Now, if you were to show me a series of $15 million townhomes/penthouses on the Upper East Side... maybe then I'd agree with you.  Tongue

The first is an architectural disaster, out of proportion, which messy lines. The second is an unimaginative and overly ostentatious display of tasteless nouveau riche extravagance, and the third looks like a rather subdued and attractive traditional colonial home.

That's what it's going for, and I'd certainly agree that the intent is better than with the first two, but the materials used and overall plasticine glitziness make it fall into a sort of architectural uncanny valley.

I would digress- I think it's fine.

If the siding were redone I'd probably agree with you.

The first one is the only one that interests me, tho to be honest, they are all larger than I would care for.

1 is nice, or at least it will be once landscaping is done. Looks very inhabitable without being annoyingly huge. 2 is a bit tacky (with that money, I'd have a much nicer abode) and I am generally not a fan of pavement-grass ratios that slanted. 3 looks like it might feature too many of House 2's excesses inside and isn't my style but at least it looks like it is located in a nice region of the country.

Don't care much for the first one for the reasons Torie mentions. And I don't like a garage that's that attached.

The second one is just too big. It isn't even all in frame. The vast majority of people who could even afford that would probably be house poor.

I like the third one, though!

If I were wealthy, though, I suppose I'd be in the market for a spacious Tudor style home. Some of those are utterly beautiful and are also Old World in a way that I like.

FH, but it's not what I like.

Here is what my one of my dream houses would look like,

and the other.

Do you know the story of those oak trees lining the presentation of that old mansion (quite the disappointment the mansion itself, almost a veritable Potemkin Village given the inimitable and totally grand presentation framing it), Jerry?

I do not unfortunately, but I love tree lined drives.  The house is a bit underwhelming and fake looking.  I would change some things about it, but it is a good template for me to dream off of.

Okay, here's mine, then, or some equivalent. I'm working on it. Tongue

I guess the garage is in the back.

The last one's not so bad. The first two look too ostentatious and McMansion-y.

If I had the requisite liquidity and credit, I would pick up one of these in a heartbeat...

John Staub was considered one of the premier architects in Houston in the early and mid 20th century. Our lack of zoning and preservation laws means that, unfortunately, many of his creations were razed over the years but several are still around, like this one in the uber-exclusive Shadyside neighborhood.

This is the perfect dining room to announce over Christmas dinner to your children that you're not leaving them anything in your will.

They were planted by a Frenchman (in the 17th century I believe) about 200 years prior to when the house was built. His dreams did not work out, but his oak trees made him immortal in exchange. Not a bad bargain. Smiley
