Lincoln (R)

Douglas and Bell were useless moderate heroes and I'm not even going to touch Breckenridge.

To make up for the fact that old Mech would've voted Bell, I probably should vote Douglas.

Douglas was clearly the best choice in this election.

They might be voting without hindsight. And if you were a Southerner in 1860, the probability of you voting for Lincoln was close to zero.

What's interesting was he actually wasn't on the ballot in most Southern States. The only ones that even had Lincoln on the ballot were Kentucky and Virginia, and Lincoln managed to get a healthy 1% in both of those states. You get the picture.

Well yeah, I just assume everyone here is voting with the benefit of hindsight. Without it, things become murkier, but with it, voting anyone other than Lincoln is insane.

Without, living in an industrial northern city, the likelihood of me voting for anyone other than Lincoln would be highly dubious. I would never have even considered Bell and would be openly contemptuous of Breckinridge.
